Howard Langston (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is a busy man, who hardly has
time for his wife, Liz (Rita Wilson) and his son, Jamie (Jake Lloyd).
All the time, he is compared with his next-door neighbor, Ted Maltin
(Phil Hartman), who is a divorcee and a super dad. Howard promises to
attend Jamie's karate match, but again breaks his promise. Now, his last
chance of saving himself as well as his marriage is by getting the much
sought after Turbo-Man action figure as a Christmas present for his son.
Howard has no idea that Turbo-Man toys are the hottest Christmas gifts
of the season and their stock is quickly depleting throughout the
country. Determined to live upto his family's expectations this time,
Howard embarks on a mission to find the toy for his son. On his quest,
he comes across Myron Larabee (Sinbad), a postal worker dad, who is on
the same mission as him. In their search for the toy, both the dads end
up masquerading as live action stuntmen at a department store parade.
Howard is dressed up as the Turbo-Man and using this opportunity, he
gives a coveted Turbo-Man doll to his son, who is standing in the crowd.
Myron sees this and chases Jaime around the parade ground to take away
the toy. Ultimately, Howard turns up, dressed up as Turbo-Man, and saves
his son from Myron. Seeing Myron's dedication towards his son, Jamie
gives up the Turbo doll, saying his dad is the only superhero he needs.
In the final scene, Howard is shown opening gifts with Jamie, only to
realize that he has forgotten to give a present to Liz.
